How do I know what type of fence is right for my property?

The best type of fence depends on your needs, such as privacy, security, aesthetics, and budget. We can help guide you based on your requirements and the specific conditions of your property.

    Do you offer fencing installation?

Unfortunately, we don’t offer installation ourselves, however we may be able to provide contact information for contactors in your area. Please note that we accept no responsibility for any work that is carried out.

    Do you treat timber onsite?

Yes, we operate Tanalith and Creosote Treatment of Softwood Timbers at our own depots in Warminster and Moreton-in-Marsh. Treating both our own and third party timbers, we offer a selection of high pressure preservative treatments and ensure a quality treatment to maximise the service life of the timber.

What happens to the preservative protection when treated timber is cut or notched?

Ideally timber should be cut or notched before treatment. However, where these procedures are required onsite, the surfaces exposed by the cutting or notching of Tanalised™ treated timber should be further protected with an appropriate brush-on end grain preservative to maintain the integrity of the preservative protection. One such item that we supply is the ESP (End Seal Preservative) Timber in Green, our full range of timber paints & stains can be found here.

I can’t see what I’m after on your website; do you have any other stock?

If you can’t find what you are after, please feel free to come and have a look around our depots and a member of our sales team will be able to help you. If you still can’t find what you are looking for, we also offer the option to order in special items, but please be aware that these items have a lead time of 6-8 weeks approximately.

Do you provide advice on timber maintenance?

Yes, we can offer guidance on how to treat and maintain your timber, whether it’s for outdoor decking, fencing or outdoor furniture. Please get in touch with a member of our sales team.

Do you offer custom cutting or milling services?

Unfortunately, we don’t offer these services, however we do treat timber on site at both our depots. We also have the option to order in special items that we don't keep stocked. Please get in touch with a member of our sales team.

    Why does my timber ‘move’?

Due to the nature of timber, shrinking, swelling and splitting can sometimes occur. Timber stores a degree of water which is gradually released or absorbed depending on temperature and humidity. The surface dries out far quicker that the centre which may make the timber ‘move’ and can cause splits. As the timber soaks up moisture again, these splits will become less pronounced and can even ‘repair’ itself. As timber is a live product, splits and any other natural movement is not classified as a flaw.

Why does my timber vary in colour?

Generally, the colour is a pleasing light green due to the UC3/UC4 treatment, colours may vary slightly owing to the natural variation of colour within timber species. Please note Creosoted Timber (which is for commercial and agricultural use only) varies between black and brown. Timber can range in colour due to different species, softwood, hardwood, also down to treatment as each timber can soak varying amounts. Over time, timber colouring becomes less pronounced due to natural weathering.

What is the difference between softwood and hardwood timber?

Softwood comes from coniferous trees (like pine or fir) and is generally less dense, while hardwood comes from deciduous trees (like oak or maple) and is denser and often more durable.

What is the difference between UC3 and UC4 timber?

The difference between UC3 (Use Class 3) and UC4 (Use Class 4) timber lies in the level of treatment they receive to protect them from environmental factors such as moisture, fungi and insect attack. UC3 is suitable for external use where the timber is above ground and protected from direct contact with the ground (e.g., garden furniture and decking). UC4 is suitable for external use where the timber is in contact with the ground or exposed to frequence moisture (e.g., fence posts and gate posts).
